HORSES TEAR WOOL OFF SHEEP’S BACKS
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, Thursday. Sheep-worrying is not the least of the troubles farmers in the King Country have to contend with, and in not a few cases the guilty dogs have been caught and destroyed. An extraordinary case is reported from the Kaitieke district, where the nuisance has been unusually prevalent during the past few weeks. One settler, who had discovered signs of worrying among his flocks, set a watch and much to I 1 * his astonishment discovered that a couple of young and unbroken horses were the culprits. The method employed by the marauders was to chase the sheep and deliberately tear the wool from the terrified animals’ backs. Probably the occurrence is unique in the annals of New Zealand farming.
