Two Hunt Clubs Will Race To-Morrow
Taranaki and Otago Meetings
THE lighter scale of weights will be in vogue again from tomorrow onwards, and the first fixtures with the sevenstone minimum are th£ Taranaki and Otago Hunt Clubs, both of which hold their annual race meetings to-morrow*.
At New Plymouth
The Taranaki Hunt Club will race on the circular New Plymouth course and from all accounts the going will be on the soft side, or at the best will provide a dead track. Good acceptances have been received, but Pompeius is the sole Auckland representative. The following promise to attract liberal support on the totalisator: Leppcrton Hurdles.— Blago and Pikimai. Opunake Scurry.—Lady Quex and Flying Binge. Hunters’ Maiden Steeplechase.— Trouble and Waitanehau. Waihi Hack Handicap.—Tekarere and Miss Mercia. • Hunt Club Steeplechase.—Pompeius and 'Haeremai. Stratford Handicap.—Partaga and Horomea. Hunters’ Flat Handicap. Bay Dighton and Blago. Urenui Handicap.—Denier and Tekarere. The acceptances for to-morow are as follow: LEPPERTON HUNTERS’ HURDLES Of £80; 1J miles.
At Wingatui
In the South the fixture that will no doubt attract considerable attention is the Otago Hunt Club at Wingatui, and the going there will be heavy. In all but the opening event the fields are good, the seven races and one trotting event making up a good mixed bill of fare. The meeting will mark the reappearance of that one-time excellent performer over obstacles, Lochella. who is one of the few winners of the Great Northern double, a feat accomplished eight years ago. Horses that on recent form, and in their schooling efforts and work on the flat, should command attention from backers are the following: Seaview Hunters’ Hurdles.—Gold T own. President’s Handicap. Meadow Lark and Marjoram. Otago Hunt Club Steeplechase.—Ranui and Lochella. Jockey Club Handicap.—Taboo and Overdrawn. Wingatui Trotting Handicap.—Sunspot and Dan Hdon. Brockville Steeplechase.—Jovial and Ranui. Hunters’ Flat Handicap.—Pink Rose and Armchair. Vauxhall Handicap. Silver Paper and Narrative. The fields for to-morrow are as follow:
