SUMMER TIME COMMITTEE
MR. E. P. LEE CHAIRMAN OPPOSING ELEMENTS GROUPED (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Though it is admitted that the chances of the local Summer Time Bill now’ before a Select Committee depend very much on the attitude of the Railw'ay Department, the stand that Mr. T. K. Sidey, its indefatigable promoter, will probably take is that if the Railway Department cannot meet the altered conditions its inability to do so will be a reflection upon the efficiency of the service. The committee, which is to report uithin ten days, unless it cannot possibly get through the business before It within that time, consists of anti and pro-summer time elements grouped in equal numbers. The presence of these opposing elements raises inevitably the possibility cf a deadlock on the committee, but the risk is lessened by the fact that some of the former opponents to national summer time have agreed to support the modified scheme now brought down by Mr. Sidey. Furthermore, the chairman of the committee, is Mr. E. P. Lee, a strong champion of national summer time, who could, in the event of a deadlock, give a casting v ote in favour of the Bill.
