Poets' Corner-

MOONLIGHT (Written for THE SUN) A leaning tree across the moon, Upon a black and silver hill . . . 80 small a thing — yet, as I looked, Bright Beauty made my heart stand still. UNA CURRIE. A uckland. THE FROST ('Written for THE SUN) The frost is a hoary veteran, Stabbing with slender scimitars The cool dark o’ the night. Brave as a stalking lion, And clad in scintillating splendour, He shrivels the world at a gesture And shrouds it in burial white. Ah! but the dawn comes swiftly. Opalescent and lovely, And lifts the icorld from the crushing Octopus-arms of the night. And the frost, that scarry hunter, With his thin, steely scimitars, Flees like a cowed panther From the hot scorn of the light . The frost is as brave as a lion, In the cool murk o’ the night, And brave as can be in the light. HELENA HENDERSON.
