PHONE 25-541. PULVERISED COAL.—The first. British cargo vessel to carry plant for burning pulverised coal as fuel is to be equipped on the Tyne ,by Messrs. Clarke, Chapman and Co.. Gateshead, for the Blue Star Line. The need for a special boiler has been overcome, and an ordinary boiler is to be used. The coal usually costs about half the price of bunker coal. TONNAGE LAUNCHED ON TYNE.— The tonnage launched on the Tyne this year is considerably in excess of the production for the corresponding period of last year, says Lloyd’s Gazette, in April 11 vessels of 33,51)6 tons were put into the water, as compared with six vessels and 30,624 in April last year, an increase of five vessels and 2,972 tons. In the four months of this year 33 vessels of 130,214 tons have been launched compared with 11 vessels and 50,134 tons from January to the end of April, 1927, an increase of 22 vessels and 80,080 tons.'
