TENDERS WITHDRAWN
HOSPITAL AT PAEROA SPECULATION AS TO REASON (From Our Own Correspondent) PAEROA, Tuesday. Tenders called by the Public Works Department for the much-discussed maternity hospital at Paeroa have now been withdrawn. The withdrawal has caused much speculation at Thames and Paeroa as to the reason. Mr. J. W. Danby, de-puty-chairman of the Thames Hospital Board, said that the department may have decided that the proposed building was not suited to the district’s requirements. If this was so it should be commended for its prudence. On the other hand the department may have decided to defer the building of the hospital until such time as the requirements and prospects of the district warranted the erection of such an institution.
ONLY TEMPORARY
HOSPITAL WILL BE BUILT (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. When the withdrawal of the tenders was referred to the Hon.. J# A. Young, Minister of Health, he said it was only temporary, in order to allow certain legal formalities to be complied with. He added: “The Thames Hospital Board must be given the opportunity of erecting the building, but in the event of jts persisting in its refusal to do so the hospital will be constructed under the authority of the Minister.”
