To Day's Racing As Guide for To-Morrow
DANNEVIRKE HUNT CLUB BIG FIELDS TO LINE UP The annual race meeting of the Dannevirke Hunt Club is to be held to-morrow on the Dannevirke racecourse. Big fields have been paid up for in all eight events, and as the great majority of the horses are engaged to-day (winners liable to penalties, of course) on the same course, the form should be illuminating. Apart from this, however, and writing prior to the receipt of any of to-day’s results, the following appear to be entitled to some consideration:
Ashcott Hunters’ Hurdles. —Homemade and Bal lyfarnon. Oringi Hack Hurdles. —Cohesion and Ballyfarnon. Takapau Novice Stakes. —Skypomt and Kiu Jazz. Hunt Club Steeples.—Master Arch and Rangi Sarto. Rakaiatai Handicap.— Beaumont and Royal Game Kakahukura Hack Handicap.—Kalos and Arrow Boy Akitio Ladies’ Bracelet (amateur riders). —Locarno and Quadalquiver. Kaitoke Hack Handicap.—Dreamy and Abisogne. The programme for to-morrow, showing the starting times, and acceptances- (the weights include penalties incurred at Hastings last Saturday), is. as follows: 11.45 ASHCOTT HUNTERS’ HURDLES Of £75; 1£ miles
TE KUITI CLUB SHOWS SPLENDID RECOVERY
PRESIDENT’S SUMMING UP ' (Special to THE SUN) TE KUITI, Tuesday. The financial position of the Te Kuiti Racing Club Js dealt with at some length by the president, Mr. A. F. Howarth, in the report to be presented at the annual meeting on Thursday. The report states that the club has passed through an extremely critical period during the twelve months just closed. Owing to. a combination of circumstances the club found itself in such a position that it would have been impossible to carry on unless some extraordinary relief could be obtained. Permission was obtained for a two days’ meeting at Ellerslie on June 30 and July 2. The meeting resulted in a substantial profit, which has had the effect of putting the club on a sound financial basis.
The thanks of the club were due to the special committee set up to go into the club’s financial position, for the thorough manner in which the work was carried out and for the services of the committee in putting the club’s financial position on a sound and permanent basis. As a result of the work done by the committee and the meeting at Ellerslie the financial position of the club as disclosed by the balance sheet is much sounder than it has been for many years. All outstanding liabilities to date have been paid and the limit of the bank overdraft, which previously stood at £4,000, has been permanently reduced to £2,500. The present overdraft was well Ydthin this limit. Regarding dates of race meetings, the report says the committee has been granted November 24 and 26, and the annual meeting will be held at Te Kuiti on these dates this year. This alteration is to a certain extent experimental and if the meeting this year is successful, it is proposed the club shall apply to have these dates granted to it permanently. Previously the meeting was held in the first week in February.
