PAKURANGA HUNT

MEET AT KELLY’S CORNER HARES TOO GOOD FOR HOUNDS There was a large field of huntsmen to meet the hounds of the Pakuranga hunt at Kelly’s Corner, Papatoetoe, on Saturday. Some good strong hares were put up, and provided the followers with plenty of running. During a couple of runs the hounds ran against crossscents, and the pack split, the huntsman having to work part of the pack off, to follow up the original trail. The* hounds were thrown off in Mr. Watt’s farm, and after a long draw a quarry was raised. It took the followers for a good spin across Mr. Stonex’s property, and circling back through Mr. Watts’s ran on to Mr. Stubbing’s, and again on to Mr. Watts’s, heading the* pack through the properties of Messrs. Marriner and Dawson’s, where it crossed the road on to Mr. Wyman’s. Taking to the raod, it found shelter near Mr. R. I-lall’s homestead. A good variety o| obstacles was encountered, and some good jumping was witnessed over gorse hedges, ditches, wires and saplings. The next draw was made at the back of Mr. Stubbing’s holding. A. hare was soon raised. It led the pack a merry chase across Messrs. and Stubbings’ farm, and crossing the road into Mr. Ken. Ross’s farm, led the way through Messrs. McCarthy’s and Kent-Johnstone’s, where it doubled back through Messrs. Ormiston’s and James Ross’s on to the road, where it found shelter. Another draw was made in Mr. J Baker’s, and on to Mr. Lou Gillard’s, where a quarry was put up. After a good spin round Mr. Q. Murphy’s farm it found shelter in a clump of bush. Mr. H. Bullock-Webster, master of the hunt, was in charge.
