A STUPENDOUS WORK

BRITISH FIRMS AND CHINA REPAIRING WAR RAVAGES CONTRACTS TOTAL £15,000,000 (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z Press Association.) LONDON, Saturday. A powerful British syndicate has been formed to reconstruct part of the war ravages in China, says the “Daily Express.” The Nationalist Government is about to sign contracts totalling £15,000,000. The following firms are to participate: Cammell, Laird and Company and John Brown and Company (shipbuilders) ; the Scottish Lustreen Company (artificial silks) ; the Elierman Lines, Ltd. (shipowners) ; J. and P. Co’ats (sewing cottons) ; and Wrigley Parker and Company (Yorkshire woojlens). Another British syndicate is said to have been formed to construct roads and railways in the provinces of Chekiang and Kiangsu. _ It is believed that the stupendous operations of the organisation, including roads, railways, bridges, dockyards and machinery, will ultimately enable Britain to once more assume her commercial leadership of the world.
