THREE SCARED AIRMEN
FRENCHMEN’S CLOSE SHAVE FACES WHITE AS SHEET ■ f United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright > (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) PARIS, Saturday. Three French airmen, Captains Coudouret and Mailloux, and Lieutenant Maillunesle, started at 6 a.m. today from the airdrome at Le Bourget in an attempt to fly across the Atlantic in the airplane La France. They met with a series of mishaps, however. The heavily-loaded machine had great difficulty in rising, and narrowly escaped the trees bordering the akdrome. It then flew straight for a ime of telegraph wires, but just missed them. It also barely cleared the electric-power cables. Then the pilot almost collided with a house in the village of Gonesse, 10 miles from Paris. The undercarriage scraped the roof. The pilot released the reserve petrol, which helped the machine to rise clear. It circled for seven minutes, and then safely de scended to the airdrome. The flyers emerged with their faces as white as a sheet, and they were dripping with perspiration.
