New Schooner-Yacht
BIG VESSEL BUILDING^ FOR COASTAL AND SOUTH SEAS CRUISING The building of a large schoonerrigged yacht which will be the finest addition to Auckland’s pleasure fleet for many years, has just begun at Mr. Charles Bailey’s yards at Freeman’s Bay. The vessel, which will be the last word in design, is being built to the order of the owner of the launch Silens, a well-known cruiser. The new' ship will be fitted for long cruising and is to be used for voyaging round the coast of New Zealand and among the Pacific Islands. She will be 54 feet long and will have a beam of 15ft and a draft of eight feet. Schooner-rigged, the ship will have two masts. On her keel will be three tons of lead. For power in calm weather a 20 horse-power engine will be installed in a separate engine-room. The accommodation will provide sleeping quarters for eight. The design includes a fine galley and all conveniences. The plans indicate pleasing lines and the fact that the vessel will be built under the supervision of Mr. Bailey ensures a beautiful ship. The builders «xpect to launch the new craft about Christmas time.
