SIR DUDLEY DE CHAIR
N.S.W. GOVERNOR WANTS TO SEE N.Z. ON WAY TO ENGLAND To-day Admiral Sir Dudley De Chair, Governor of New South Wales, rubbed shoulders with Aucklanders in Queen Street. This is his first visit to New Zealand, and he spent the morning taking his first view of the city from the footpath. “I am just on my way to England on urgent private business,” said Sir
Dudley this morning on the Niagara. “I am going Home through Canada and will return via Panama to New Zealand. “I have always wanted to see your country, so I shall spend three weeks here on my return.” Sir Dudley is accompanied by Lady De Chair and Miss Elaine De Chair, who will go on to Fiji to stay with the Governor there. Later they will tour the Islands, returning to New Zealand in December in time to travel through the Dominion with Sir Dudley. The Governor has had his term of office extended for one year. “I shall be very glad to stay in Australia for another year,” he remarked. “We like it very much and have made many friends there?” Sir Dudley De Chair’s son is a sublieutenant on H.M.S. Laburnum, which is at present cruising in the Islands.
