UNDERGROUND TANKS
STORAGE OF PETROL INQUIRY TO BE MADE (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. A suggestion that underground petrol tanks should be made the subject of investigation by the Explosives Department was made by Mr. D. G. Sullivan, Avon, in the House this evening. Mr. Sullivan said the number of underground tanks was causing the local authorities some concern. Cities were becoming honeycombed with them. The local authorities would appreciate a lead and if an investigation could be made and the results made known it might be the means of avoiding danger and expense. The Acting-Minister of Internal Affairs, Sir Maui Pomare, said all the tanks had to be passed by inspectors of the Explosives Department before they could be used. Mr. Sullivan: The Christchurch City Council favours concrete tanks, but I understand the department does not approve. The Minister said he would have inquiry made, as he was not altogether satisfied.
