THE FARTHING GAME
You never get tired of ball games, do you, children, though I am sure you like a change of game occasionally. Why not try the farthing game? All -the players but one stand in a line—the odd player being the thrower. He throws the ball and the others run to catch it. The player who catches the ball gains a farthing by his or her catch —not a real farthing, of course, but a “pretend” one. So the game goes on until someone is valued at. threepence—which means he has caught the ball 12 times. He is the winner and takes the place of thrower. If any one of the players has not caught the bail once, and is therefore not worth one farthing, he has to stand out of the next game and take score.
