“FAIR AND REASONABLE”
CLAIM FOR HOSTEL GRANT HAMILTON AS EDUCATIONAL CENTRE (From Our Oxen Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. “I realise that your claim is fair and reasonable,” said the Hon. .T. A. Young when the Hamilton High School Board waited on him to-day asking him to induce the Minister of Education to forego the 5 per cent, imposition on the grant for a new hostel. Mr. Young said he was glad to see an awakening of public interest in educational matters here, and he predicted Hamilton would become the educational centre of South Auckland. In 1913 he had been responsible for putting a Bill through the House which provided for 10 acres being set aside as a hostel site. He was instrumental in withdrawing a proviso that the buildings must be erected within seven years. As the board had been loyal during the war and had not pressed its claim he considered it should*be entitled to a free grant. As a member of the board, member for the district and Minister of the Crown, he would use his influence to the fullest extent to this end.
