Auckland players have shone in the Basketball Association’s Dominion championships, and have an excellent chance of carrying off the honours. Wellington is a serious rival. Otago has done the best among the South Island teams, but was beaten by Wellington in a strenuous tussle yesterday afternoon. Auckland backed up its easy defeat of Taranaki by accounting for Southland by 30 points to 3. The Southerners were outclassed. Hawke’s Bay beat Taranaki by 27 points to 7. THIS MORNING'S PLAY This morning, Auckland maintained its winning way after a splendid game with Otago. The Northern team was too fast and won clearly by 21 points to 13. Otago, however, had the satisfaction of rattling the Auckland defence more than the other teams have done. Mr. Thomson refereed. In the opening game, Canterbury accounted for Taranaki by 29 points to 10. Taranaki gave a much improved showing. Miss Armstrong refereed. With honours even, 9-9, at half-time, Wellington had to fight hard in an interesting game to beat Southland 27-13. The Southerners were worn down by Wellington’s persistency. Miss Hooker was referee.
