AMERICAN FILMS LEAD

CENSOR’S ANNUAL REPORT (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. How American films predominate in New Zealand picture theatres is shown by figures given in the annual report of the Internal Affairs Department. The censor examined 585 British Empire films, including features and topicals, and the total length was 716,670 ft. Of the feature films 35 were produced in the British Empire, 580 in United States of America, and 13 originated in Germany, France, Italy and Sweden. Last year 5,813,840 ft of pictures were viewed by the censor. Of the 2,333 films shown, only 69 were rejected, 254 were passed subject to excisions, and 44 were passed for adult audiences only. The remainder were passed unconditionally. One of the two appeals against censored films was upheld.
