“WELCOME, AUSTRALIA”
CRUISER VISITS AMERICA FRIENDLY NEWSPAPER (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and A T.Z. Press Association) ' NEW YORK, Wednesday. The “New York American” says: “No American will ever forget Australia’s welcome to the United States Fleet three years ago. It had more behind it than politeness or a gesture of diplomacy. It rose to the dignity of an ovation. “What will be especially interesting will be the response of the peopie of New York in their welcome to the cruiser Australia. They are usually kindly to seamen under any flag. Will they Instinctively show to these men from the opposite side of the globe the same enthusiasm of greeting which the people of Australia showed to the American sailors in 1925? "We hope so, for that would not only be fitting in courtesy but also pro-’ foundly significant. “It would advertise the essential oneness of two lusty branches of the white race, and would he in itself a powerful incentive to peace.”
