SHIPPING ACTIVITY
N.Z. PORTS WILL BE BUSY NEXT WEEK After a period of moderate activity for the past fortnight or so, shipping in New Zealand waters will be booming next week. No fewer than 11 overseas, Canadian-Australian mail, and intercolonial passenger vessels are scheduled to arrive at New Zealand ports on or before Wednesday next. Four of these vessels are due at Southern ports, but the remainder will make Auckland their first port of call. On Monday the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s liner Corinthic is duo at Wellington from London and Southampton with passengers and cargo, and on the same day the company’s new motor-ship Coptic will arrive at Auckland on her maiden voyage from Liverpool. She is one of the fastest cargo vessels in the world, a sister ship of the company’s other new vessels, Zealandic and Taranaki, which have already visited this port. A fourth vessel, the Karamea, is due later in the year. The British steamer Copenhagen is expected at Auckland on Sunday with a cargo of sulphur from Texas, and to-morrow the S.S. and A. steamer Gallic will arrive at Bluff from Australia. The Union Company’s tanker Otokia liner Niagara will arrive at Auckland on Monday, en route from Sydney to Vancouver, and the following day the intercolonial steamers Maheno and Marama are due at Auckland and W'ellington respectively from Sydney.
