Launch Capsizes in Heavy Seas
TWO BROTHERS MISSING WRECKAGE WASHED ASHORE Press Association. WELLINGTON, Thursday. The large launch Matakataki, owned by Brown Brothers, of Paremata, capsized off the reef about two mile® from Plimmerton about 2.30 p.m. to-day, according to a message received from the postmaster at Plimmerton. Harry Brown, a married man of 53, with no children, and Alick Brown, aged 48, married, with four children, were in the launch at the time. The launch was seen floating for a few rainutes, and then disappeared. It was impossible to send searchers from either Plimmerton or Paremata. A heavy sea is running, and there is a high wind. A party of men left Paremata for the reefs near the scene of the mishap. The Brown brothers carried lifebelts in the launch. The search for the missing men was continued until dark. No trace of either was seen, but much wreckage of the launch, and the battered hulk, were discovered. The disaster seems to have been due to the stoppage of the engine, causing the boat to capsize in the heavy seas. The two men were farmers, who fished in the winter.
