Banks Very Firm
Advance in Auckland Gas
THIS morning saw a reaction on ’Change from the heavy trading of yesterday. Although most groups recorded considerable strength, the volume of business was not large.
Banks are very firm and show no signs of weakening. New Zealanda are strongly held and sellers are not attracted with buyers’ offers of 61s. Sellers of New Zealand Insurances came in at mid-day at 44s 6d to find eteady buyers at 43s 6d. In coals, Taupiris were slightly easier this morning, with sellers weakened to 27s 3 od. Renowns are receiving more attention, and several buyers appeared in around the low level of 7s 9d, with sellers asking down to 12s. Auckland Gas show a distinct rise, with sales at 235. Sellers at mid-day hsked 23s 3d, with buyers offering 22s 9d. Woollens hold their recently improved tone. Kaiapois show increased strength, with sellers at 13s 6d, supported by buyers at 12s 6d. Mosgiels
and Wellingtons are very firm and sellers are hard to locate. Little movement is shown in the miscellaneous group. Wilsons Cements are slightly firmer, with buyers offering 38s 6d. Business at yesterday afternoon’s call: On ’Change—Commercial Bank of Australia, 30s 9d. Reported—National Bank of New Zealand, £7 6s; National Insurance, 16s 6d; Morris Hedstrom (ord.), 21s; New Zealand Refrigerating Co. (con.), 9s 6d: Auckland Harbour Board, 4 per cent., 1936 £9O.
