FOR THE “ASHES”

Third League Test Will Decide World’s Premiership

LAST GAME OF TOUR rS the eve of what is bound to prove one of the greatest League Rugby clashes witnessed in New Zealand in recffirt years. The third and final test—England v. New Zealand -is to be staged at Christchurch to-morrow. One test to each side, the “ashes” at stake, and this alone can spell a hard-fought, exciting’ and brilliant game. It is a game which will decide the world’s premiership iu League Rugby.

In Auckland, the Englishmen tasted the real powers of an All-New Zealand side, while in Dunedin the tables were turned, and New Zealand felt the pang of test defeat. To forecast to-morrow’s result is in reality, a task for one who has followed and witnessed both teams in action in the South. Intermingled between the games on their Southern tour, the Englishmen have had to withstand the

But in spite of this, they rose to the occasion last Saturday, and this together with the fact that this week has been made a light one for them (only one exhibition game being played) should find them better tuned up for the fray to-morrow than they have been on any other occasion. N.Z. SHOULD BE BETTER On the other hand, it has to be reckoned that the Maoriland side must at the present time be a much superior team, in combination and tactics generally, than when they first took the field in Auckland. Since then, the New Zealanders have had a good week and a-half training, as well as one game in between: By now they must be a hard team. It is interesting to note however, that Parkin the Engish captain who was injured in Australia and was seen in action for the first time in the exhibition game last Wednesday, is included in the team for to-morrow. nc bound to prove, a tower of strength and his generalship especially, is a factor which Australian critics say, won the Englishmen the tests across the Tasman. With Parkin and Fairclough in action, England will most likely adopt back play tactics, throwing the ball about ,in its usual neat but deadly passing bouts, a style which has marked the visitors as a great team. This band of brilliant English Leaguers, who play a class of game equal to the best football played, have the odds in their favour to-morrow.
