NEW ZEALAND WIN

FAST EXHIBITION LEAGUE GAME A ONE-POINT VICTORY Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. After a fast, open exhibition of -the League code, New Zealand beat England to-day by 27 points to 26. The weather was ideal and the ground was in capital order. There was a large attendance. J. Parkin, the English captain, made his first appearance after being incapacitated for two months, and was responsible for a fine exhibition of halfback play. The visiting rearguard handled the ball more accurately than its opponents, and would have scored more tnes had infringements been less frequent. On the other hand, New Zealand’s score would have been greater had Dufty turned tp better account the opportunities that came his way. EXECUTIVE MEETING HELD RICHMOND ENTERS PROTEST At a meeting oi the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby League, held last evening, Mr. G. Rhodes presiding, the Richmond Club entered a protest. It was stated that the referee, in its game against Ponsonby .on Saturday, made an error of judgment in the interpretation of the rules when a Ponsonby player gave a knock-on when time was up. The movement went unchecked, and from the goal kicked the game ended in a draw. The judicial committee’s finding, that a protest against the referee’s ruling could not be discussed, caused several members to question the decision. Mr. W. J. Davidson said that an appeal could be made against a referee’s rulings on the laws on the game, and that Richmond’s claim was in order. After further discussion, the chairman ruled that the judicial committee’s finding would have to be upheld, but Richmond could appeal against the decision. Mr. G. Rhodes was appointed delegate to represent the league on the proposed formation of an Olympic Club. Permission was granted the Northcote Club to visit Hamilton on September 15. A request from the district railways engineer for the provision of a high galvanised iron fence along the top of the railway embankment on the boundary of Carlaw Park was left in the hands of the chairman to report. The chairman and secretary were appointed to join a deputation with members of other sports bodies to wait upon the City Council in reference to the theft of clothing from public grounds.
