MINISTER’S HOPE
HOSPITAL BLOCK MAY COST ONLY £30,000 LAUNDRY FOR INFIRMARY Though the Minister of Health has given a provisional approval of the erection of the infectious diseases block, to cost £33,500, he hopes that “it will not be more than £30,000 ” The Hospital Board decided yester-’ day to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for £40.000 to build thfc* block and a laundry at the infirmarv. The department, commenting on the architect’s plans, submitted 12 points of a very minor nature for consideration. The majority of these are either already embodied in the design, or can be given effect to without disturbing the efficiency of the building. The approved building will give accommodation for 53 patients, and further bed room may be provided in the two sun balconies. Macninery costing £4,500 has already been ordered for the laundry. The estimates lirhit the cost of the building to £1,500. The architects were instructed to prepare plans for the remodelling of the old kitchen block and to report as to the accommodation necessary for the installation of modern cooking equipment in the shape of steam boilers and gas or electric stoves.
