letter and court action CLAIM FOR DEFAMATION (From Our Own Correspondent.) "WHANGAREI, Tuesday. Modern modes and dress colours considerably puzzled Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Whangarei Court to-day, when Mrs. Myrtle McLeod claimed £25 from Dennis P. Riordan and his wife for alleged defamation of character. The claim, was based on a letter from defendant to Mrs. McLeod, accusiug her of obtaining a pair of cham-Pfigne-coloured shoes from a local store in defendant’s name without authority, and threatening prosecution Payment was not made immediately.
