SUCCESS OF TAKANINI TRACKS EMPHASISED

WHAT HAS BEEN DONE •‘Last year I referred to the establishment of training tracks at Takanini* | said the Hon. E. W. Alison. |at yesterday’s annual meeting. "a, I members are aware, these tracks are subsidised by our club as j well as by the Auckland Racine Club. They continue to give the utmost satisfaction and to provide many winners, not only in the Auckland district, but in other parts ot the Dominion, and latterly even In Australia. The tracks are regularly in. spected by Mr. Hill, course manager for the A.ft.C., and have invariably been well reported upon. ‘‘The turf, is now consolidated, the plough is in perfect order, and visiting Southern trainers have expressed the opinion that there is nothing better in any part of New Zealand. A large number of horses have received their racing education at Takanini during the past year, and the record, including the recent successes in Sydney, shows a total of roughly £14,000 won in stakes by horses trained on these tracks over a period of 12 months. “To These the Credit•'The association of our club with the metropolitan club in encouraging and fostering the establishment and maintenance of its training facilities has had the happiest results, and the benefits t 6 racing generally will be increasingly evident as time goes on. I think it only right to say that the group of sportsmen who, without any desire for profit, and with much personal effort and expenditure, made themselves responsible for this excellent work, are entitled to the greatest credit. They are all owners and include Mr. Fred Earl, K.C., Sir Janies Coates. Mr. A. E. Tattley, Mr. Colin, W. Anderson, Mr. \V. Scholium, Mr. Ewen Alison and Mr. AY. H. Wackrow. ■‘ln establishing the tracks at Takanini there were many difficulties to overcome and responsibilities to be taken, and in this connection Mr. F. Earl, K.C., one of our most enthusiastic and foremost Auckland sportsmen, is deserving of a special word of praise.’’ REMINDERS Nominations for the Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting, to be held on September 22 and 24, close at £ p.m., on August 31.
