A PARADOX
\ STRONG plea for the reintroduction of the Gaming Bill, providing for the publicati'on of dividends and the telegraphing of totalisator investments, was made by Mr. W. J. Ralph at the annual meeting yesterday of the Takapuna Jockey Club. He suggested that metropolitan and country clubs combine in forwarding petitions to Parliament to give effect to the wishes of the sporting community by removing the embargo at present existing. It was paradoxical that the results of races and the figures denoting the 'order of favouritism were published, but the very thing the public wanted, the dividends, were not. The president, the Hon. E. W.* Alison, supported Mr. Ralph, and said that it was absolutely preposterous that on Boxing Day at Ellerslie, for instance, 35,000 people could see the dividends posted up, and yet the papers were not allowed to publish them. He also expressed the opinion that the double totalisator would meet with the general approval Of horse owners and the public and go a very long way to stifle the bookmakers.
