Although previously it had been announced that Hopman would not play yesterday, the tournament managers considered it advisable to advance him to the third round, in which ho defeated Dana. 7 —5. 6—l. To-day. Holbrook Hyde. Springfield (Massachusetts) defeated Hopman. 6 —4. 9— 7. in the third round. Crawford defeated Arthur Ingraham. 6 —3. 6 —2. Hunter defeated J. It. Ken no (Newport). 6—4. 7—5. Lott defeated E. L. Thalmeier (Dallas). 6—3. 6—3. Fourth Round. Doeg defeated Robert Seller (San Francisco), 6 —2. 4—6. 6—2. Hunter has circularised all the important tennis players and clubs o£ the country, asking them to file a protest with the United States Lawn Tennis Association, against its taking any action relative to W. T. Tilden’a status until after the current tennis season has ended.
