FORGED BROTHER’S NAME

MAORI WOMAN CHARGED (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, To-day. A Maori woman, Hikurangi Wairi, was admitted to probation for three months at the Police Court yesterday on a charge of sig?%ing her brother’s name to a cheque without the latter’s consent. Her counsel pointed out that the Maori point of view was different from that of the pakeha, who regarded the property of a brother and sister as separate. With the Maori it was looked on as more of a communal nature. His Honour said he hoped that the Maori woman would understand that she had no right to sign her brother's name without liis consent. She was ordered to pay ,C 3 ss, the costs of the prosecution.
