Mr. G. J. Reid arrived from the South by the Limited this morning. Major Forrest Lindsay was a passenger from Wellington by the Limited this morning. jlr. W. Jones and Mr. 3L G. R. Mason, M.P.’s, left by train for Wellington last evening. Mr. G. W. Mclntosh, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, is visting Auckland. Mr. R. A. Shepard, general manager of J. C- Williamson’s Films, Limited, is at present in Sydney on a business vteU. Mr. W. J. Girling, M.P. for Wairau, .who is visiting Auckland, will return to Wellington this evening by the Limited. Sir William Hall-Jones is a passenger on the Corinthic, which is due at Wellington on August 27 from Southampton. Sir Frederic Lang and the Hons. F. Mander, C. J. Carrington and G. J. Garland, M.L.C.’s, left by the Limited for Wellington last evening. Mr. A. G. Lunn, who ha 3 lost his classification with the Auckland Rotary Club through retirement from business, was at yesterday's luncheon given a farewell by members of the club. Captain G. B. Morgan, of the Union Steam Ship Company’s service, will take command of the steamer Manuka, which is to resume running in the New Zealand-Melbourne trade from Dunedin on August 23. Mr. M. J. Bennett, who was granted four weeks’ leave of absence by the Auckland Klectric Power Board on account of ill-health, was said by Mr. W. J. Holdswortli, yesterday, to have improved considerably. Mr. H. T. Goldie has advised the Auckland Electric Power Board of his intention of leaving on a tour of Japan, and the board yesterday afternoon granted him three months’ leave of absence. A letter of authority is to be handed to Mr. Goldie. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, heard several deputations at Wanganui yesterday. He also addressed the Rotary Club, the Commercial Club and a meeting of Reform supporters. Mr. Coates also attended a dance given by the Wanganui Junior Reform League. Sir James Coates, of Auckland, for many years general manager, and subsequently director, of the National Bank of New Zealand, has now resigned his seat on the board. At the annual meeting of the bank, held in London, the Hon. Mr. Pember Reeves, chairman, in expressing regret that Sir James had had to resign his position as honorary director, said: “We trust that for many years to come he will be able, as a friendly observer, to see the institution for which he has done so much go ahead still further.” HOTEL REGISTER Grand.—Major F.
