J.E.B.—Kindly inform me as to what should be the trouble with my 1925 roadster. It is very hard to start, but after it once kicks it runs perfectly. Have checked up on spark plugs and carburettor. ♦ * * Check timer, clean corrosion off the battery; also check battery leads from starter switch to dash. H.B.C.—Please tell me the following: (1) Top speed of Whippet 4, (2) top speed of Erskine Six, and (3) is the tread of a Marmon 8 and Erskine narrower than the standard practice. * * * (1) 58 miles an hour; (2) 60 miles an hour; (3) it is practically the same. J.M.P.—Have you any idea where I can get a powder to mix with water to manufacture benzine. * * * Xo, never heard of any such powder and do not believe it is in existence. J.J.—Will you please tell me the gear ratio in low, second, high and reverse of a 1926 Dodge sedan. * * * Low 24 to 1, second 12 to 1, high 4.16 to 1, and reverse 24 to 1. G.S.T.—Could you tell me anything about the 1922 Stutz, 4-cylinder dual ignition. (1) The diameter and stroke of pistons, (2) what is the rated also maximum horse-power, (3) what is the maximum speed of the car. * * * (1) 4 3-8 x 6; (2) 30 horse-power and 60 horse-power; (3) 75 miles an hour. J.C.A.—Kindly inform me in next Tuesday’s Motoring the following in regard to Chrysler 50 model sedan: (1) When motor is running at low speed in high gear (about 10 miles an hour) there is a tendency to jerk. What is cause and remedy (2) What is the maximum speed without injury to motor? (3) What could cause wearing out of first and second gear at 6,000 miles? (1) Have motor tuned up. You probably need carburettor or ignition adjustment or a valve grind; (2) 40 miles an hour, (3) improper lubrication.
