“A DOUBLE DOSE"

MR. COATES AND DAYLIGHT SAVING WANGANUI REQUEST (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, Monday. Seeking an assurance that the passage of Mr. T. K. S'idey’s Daylight Saving (Local Empowering) Bill would be assisted this session, a representative deputation of Wanganui citizens waited on Mr. Coates to-day. The deputation, which was introduced by Mr. W. A. Veitch, M.P., said that the consensus of opinion in Wanganui favoured the adoption of local summer time. The operation of the general scheme in Wanganui last summer had proved most beneficial. The Prime Minister said he would be glad to see Mr. Sidey and let. him know whether an opportunity for consideration would be available if that promised by private members’ day was missed. Mr. Veitch said that in fairness to the Prime Minister it should be stated that on previous occasions Mr. Coates had given Mr. Sidey’s measure every facility. “This second Bill is a double dose,” replied Mr. Coates.
