MAJESTIC
AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME Unprecedented crowds of enthusiastic picturegoers have been attracted to the Majestic Theatre, both during the day time and in the evenings, for attractive and delightful programmes are being screened. In the evenings the programme is headed by “Across to Singapore” as the chief pictorial attraction. Other pitcorial items are an amusing Fox comedy, an extremely interesting Majestic Magazine, and a very beautiful New Zealand scenic. Beautiful views of Lake Wanaka —“shining mirror of the hills”—and Lake Hawea are shown in this wonderful film, depicting all the glory of the rugged beauty of the surrounding hills and the shining waters of the lakes. The popular and talented “Midget Mosselles” provide a delightful stage interlude during the evening. A notable musical programme is provided by Mr. Whiteford Waugh’s Majestic Orchestra. This talented combination plays a delightful programme of gems from master compositions, and “Lo, Here the Gentle Lark,” is specially featured as the overture. At the afternoon session a special children’s holiday programme is presented. This is headed by a gorgeous pantomime, “Cinderella.” Over 50 talented kiddies, the pupils of Miss Lillian O’Leary, take part in this most beloved of all fairy tales. Without doubt this is one of the most spectacular ever presented in an Auckland theatre, for even without the story of “Cinderella,” the dancing and vocal numbers, not to mention the beautiful frocks of the children, would make it an outstanding production. Miss Wilma Lockwood delights all the kiddies by her weird and wonderful frog dance, and cries of delight are heard when the “Dance of the Jewels” and the quaint little Pumpkin Ballet are presented. A full pictorial programme is composed of the Majestic News, an hilarious comedy, and “Across to Singapore,” a brilliant sea story with Ramon Navarro and Joan Crawford in the leading roles. Novarro plays in the role of a sailor, one of three seafaring brothers, and a love quest hiirls him into a maelstrom of adventure. As the young sailor, battling human passions and the elements, Novarro has a role in which he proves a powerful delineator of human emotions. The terrific storm at sea, the attack of the Oriental pirates and the mutiny on deck are all acted splendidly.
