MARY PICKFORD’S BEST A special big programme is being presented at the Strand Theatre this week for the benefit of the school children on holidays. This is headed by '‘My Best Girl,” Mary Bickford’s latest and most beautiful photoplay, taken from Kathleen Norris’s novel. About this beautiful romance has heen written: “ ‘My Best Girl’ is a Bickford picture, and in it Miss Pickford gives a magnificent performance. In one scene she rises to heights never attained before. Her pathetic attempt fo disillusion the young man she loves, and who loves her, is among the finest things that the screen has given us. “It is done superbly, the heart-break-ing smile that shines through her tears being a poignant bit of acting that only a great artist could make convincing. One of the most exquisite moments in screen history is her final confession that her pretence cannot conquer her love, a moment when her shoulders droop, when the false smile vanishes, and she throws herself into her sweetheart’s arms. Mr. Taylor, the director, has made his comedy funny, his romance beautful, and his pathos tender. As a special holiday treat, Mile. Valeska’s talented Tiny Tots present twice daily a sparkling miniature revue, “Tiny Tots in Movieland.” Over 30 juvenile performers present a stage novelty which far surpasses anything they have previously done. Thirty picturesque and beautiful screen celebrities are portrayed, the stage scene depicting the festivities at the wedding' of Mary Bickford and Douglas Fairbanks. A merry Our Gang comedy, “Barnum and Ringling,” and an interesting Strand Magazine, a feature of which is the beautifully coloured Parisian fashions, are included on this delightful evening’s programme.
