BOATING AT CAPETOWN
Reading in these columns last week of Mr. H. R. Mackenzie’s observations about the size of Canadian motor-boats against which ours “look like dinghies,” Auckland launchmen might have felt for the moment a little insignificant. They will be reassured to learn, however, that there is at least one important seaport where motorlaunches are certainly fewer, if not more insignificant than those on the Waitemata. At Capetown there was no motor-boat club until very recently. A correspondent says that a meeting was called a few weeks ago to form a club with the object of encouraging racing on Table Bay and also to hold races for hydroplanes and inboard motor-craft. As in other parts outboard motor-boats are becoming all the rage and the new club will cater for these noisy sources also. Those who know Table Bay at all will not wonder that motor-boating is backward. It is a most exposed harbour and subject to tempestuous seas.
CLUB DOINGS This week is a comparatively quiet one as far as club meetings are concerned. On Wednesday evening the Manukau Cruising Club will hold a special general meeting in the Orphans’ Hall, Onehunga, to consider the question of fusion with the Manukau Yacht Club, or to decide what steps may be taken toward arriving at a better understanding on the Western Harbour. On Thursday evening the Milford Cruising Club will hold its annual social and dance in the Picturedrome, Milford. This club promises a gay function. The baby of the clubs is worthy of support. Over at Bayswater the Takapuna Boating Club, through its Ladies’ Committee, has arranged vet another money-raising show. A “Village rair will be conducted on Friday evening and on Saturday afternoon and evening. Inhaled or taken on sugar,“NAZOL” gives immediate relief from coughs colds, etc. 60 doses. Is 6d. —S. *
