Cadet's Leg Broken. —While practising in the gymnasium in the Drill Hall in Rutland Street last evening a cadet. Cyril Davis, aged IG, of Sylvan Avenue. Mount Eden, broke his leg and had to be taken to hospital. Scarlet Fever in South. —The epidemic of scarlet fever in Canterbury shows no signs of waning. Last week 57 cases were notified, including 42 in the city. Cool Thief. —A thief walked into fruit shop owned by Mr. Martin, at the corner of Barbadoes and Kilmore Streets. Christchurch. on Saturday night, while the owner was at the back of the shop, and stole a till containing a few pounds in silver and a bank book. Later the empty till and th«* bank book were found in the River Avon. Typhoid at Thames.— Five cast .s >.f | typhoid are reported at Thames. In an endeavour to trace the cause Dr. | H. Chesson, Auckland district health | officer, and the Mayor of Thames. Mr. |W. Bongard, made an inspection of j the sources of the Thames municipal j water supply. Samples of the water I were taken for analysis.
