EDUCATION’S NEEDS

MONEY FOR TECHNICAL TRAINING APPEAL AT CONFERENCE (Special to THE SUN) WELLINGTON, To-day. That technical education has not, during the past five years, received a proportion of the total vote for education in proportion to its increasing attendances was the contention made by Mr. H. S. W. King, Auckland, in his presidential address to the annual conference of the Technical Education Association of New Zealand which was opened to-day. Mr. King said that New Zealand’s total expenditure per head of population was considerably lower than in Canada, South Africa and the majority of the United States. Much had been said about the largeness of the Dominion’s educational vote, but it had been proved that this was not so. “Natural resources must be developed by human intelligence,” he said, “and while we spend much on the development of natural resources, we must not neglect the development of our young men and women.”
