MISSING MOTOR-CAR
TAKEN FROM TE KUITI (From Our Own Coinrespondent) TE KUITJ, Saturday. The first theft of a motor-car in Te Kuiti occurred on Wednesday evening, when a car owned by Mr. J. D. Vernon, solicitor, was taken from outside his office in Taupiri Street. Mr. Vernon was detained at work in the evening and at about 8.30 he was called away. Later he found his car had been removed. The police were informed, and a search was made in the town without avail. News was received that the thieves had apparently proceeded to Waitara, as a farmer rang up to inform the police that two young men had called on him endeavouring to secure benzine in exchange for an attache case. Becoming suspicious, the farmer had refused the request and communicated with the police at Waitara, who got in touch with the Te Kuiti police. Mr. Vernon had left a similar case in his car. Up to this evening, no further trace of the missing car had been found The number of the car is 34-398.
