PETER BINGEN HAS QUALIFIED FOR N.Z. CUP WINS NATIONAL CUP IN 4.25 JEWEL POINTER’S CONSISTENCY Peter Bingen has raced in his two essays at Addington during the present carnival in a manner that evidently impressed the public, with the result that he was well supported to-day in the National Cup, which he succeeded in winning in approved style. Peter Bingen is a member of the well-known Nelson Bingen—Bertha Belle family, and during his turf career has put up some high-class performances over various distances, although experts have doubted his ability to get to the end of a hard two-mile circuit in top-grade company. Last season Peter Bingen had a rather lean season, but he was not over-raced, and his exertions resulted in two seconds and two thirds in about a dozen starts. The previous year the brother to Great Bingen an£ Co. was well in the limelight, and his earnings for that period amounted to £ 2,450. AVhen recently seen at Alexandra Park Peter Bingen showed signs of returning to his best form, a*d despite failures in the August and King George Handicaps at the present National Carnival, J. J. Kennerley’s charge ran sound races and he deserved his win. That the pace was on is shown by the time recorded for the journey—4.25—which accomplishment entitles Peter Bingen to take his place in the next New Zealand Cup field. The Aucklander, Jewel Pointer, by running second, has recorded another meritorious performance and enhanced his reputation for consistency, which surely will be rewarded before the racing terminates to-day.
