DECLARED AN HABITUAL CRIMINAL OFFENCES FROM 1915 This morning James Davis, alias John Gibb Hastings, joined the ranks of habitual criminals. Tfaving- pleaded guilty in the Police Court. Te Awamutu, to one charge of breaking, entering and theft and two similar charges at Auckland, he appeared in the Supreme Court to-day tor sentence. "There is a long list of previous convictions against you,” said Air. Justice Heed addressing prisoner. "These date back as far as 1915.” Honour detailed Davis’s record, showed he had served one year in 1922, six months in 1923. a year in s * x montlls in 1926 and a year in "It seems you have made up your 2>nd to live a criminal life,” said his Honour. “I must protect society.” Prisoner was sentenced to two years’ hard labour on each charge, the terms to be concurrent. Tie was declared an habitual criminal.
