BACKED OVER CLIFF

late city

mishap to horse and CART DRIVER INJURED When a horse and cart backed over a high elite in Herne Bay this morning, the owner, Mr. J. Edwards, of South Street, Newton, was unable to jump clear and was carried to the bottom. He was pinned under the cart up to his waist in water, and was forced to stay there for some time until help came. The cart was badly smashed and it is thought that the horse will have to be killed. Mr. Edwards, who is a second-hand dealer, went to get his horse and cart from a paddock in Kilmarnie Avenue, Herne Bay, at about 5.30 o’clock this morning. As he was driving out of the gate the horse jibbed and before >lr. Edwards could get clear had backed over the edge of a cliff between 23 and 25ft high. The whole outfit landed in a pool of water at the foot of the cliff and it was some time before Mr. Edwards was rescued. He is suffering from bad bruises and perhaps internal injuries. Mr. Edwards is an elderly man. He had been in the hospital for some time and only obtained his discharge last Thursday.
