"STONEWALL TO DEATH”
OBJECTION TO COMPULSION AUCKLAND WAR MEMORIAL BILL (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. ‘We will stonewall the compulsory clauses of the Bill to the death,” said an Auckland suburban member, discussing the Auckland WAr Memorial Museum Bill, introduced the other day by Mr. J. S. Dickson, which provides for a compulsory contribution of £6.000 a year, levied on a pro rata basis from interested local bodies. The effect will be that, even If the Bill gets through this session, it will be deprived of the compulsory clauses, and the position will be no different from what it is now. The local bodies will contribute only if they feel like doing so. Some of those likely to oppose the compulsory clause hotly are Messrs. Harris (Waitemata), Potter (Roskill), McLennan (Franklin) and Mason (Eden).
