“THE WORST CITY”
AUCKLAND’S REPUTATION AUSTRALIA’S INTEREST The threatened “mourning procession” for the sins of Auckland has created an interest across the Tasman. Publicity seems to have given Auckland the reputation of the “worst city” In Australia and New Zealand. The following telegram has been received from Sir Benjamin and Mr. John Fuller in Sydney, by The Sun: “People in Australia are wondering Why Auckland is the worst city in Australasia, Commissioner Hay is getting much publicity re Auckland’s day of mourning, at the expense of Auckland’s reputation.” “NOTHING TO SAY” A reporter called on Major A. J. Miles, secretary of the divisional headquarters of the Salvation Army, to find put if any more details of the procession were available. “I have nothing to say,” said Major Miles. “The mourning procession is still to be held?” asked the reporter. "I have nothing, absolutely nothing, to say,” said the major.
