N.Z. DAIRY COY.’S YEAR
LARGE SCALE PRODUCTION BIG BONUS FOR SUPPLIERS During the season 1927-28 the New Zealand Co-op. Dairy Company Limited’s factories handled 35,338 tons of dairy produce. On this an average advance payment of over Issd alb for butter-fat has already been made, and approximately half a million sterling will be distributed in the form of a bonus payment to suppliers this month. The annual report of the company remarks that the season has been a rather remarkable one. It commenced under conditions of great promise, indicating probabilities of a record output. As the season wore on the greater part of the territory was severely stricken with drought, but in the total, the output slightly exceeded that of last year, which was a record. The output for the year was as follows : Tons. Tons. 1927-S. 1926-7. Butter 26,072 25,772 Cheese 4,250 5,019 Casein 723 767 Milk powder 4,110 4,114 Condensed milk .. .. 183 The stocks of dairy produce unsold at the end of the season had. in accordance with the usual practice, been valued at prices which it was believed would be realised when sales were effected. The liability on 27 debentures of £I,OOO each, securing the assets of the Te Awamutu milkpowder group, was extingLiished during the past season, and the developing account in this connection was written off. An additional sum of £25,500 had been placed to the reserve which now stood at £54,357 7s lid. “The total average price paid for butter-fat of superfine grade will be 17.496 d.” continued the chairman. “In addition the payments made by the company for subsidy on cream cartage and railage on cream amounted to .196 d, thus increasing the average price paid at central factories. A further amount equal to '.115d a pound butterfat has been placed to reserve, making the total amount for superfine 17.807 d a pound. Cheese factories will, in accordance with their respective manufacturing results receive varying payments. Casein supplies have, in addition to butter payments, received an average premium of 1.98 d a pound butter-fat in cash. A further payment of .5d to casein suppliers will be credited to shareholders on capital account. All prices stated above are conditional upon unsold produce realising at sale the value placed upon it for balance purposes.” BUTTER AND CHEESE Cable advice received by the Loan and Mercantile Agency, dated London, August 15, is: New Zealand choicest salted butter, 104 s; cheese, Ills to 114 s.
