BOUNDARY ROADS

MAINTENANCE QUESTION ONE TREE HILL AGREES TO CONFERENCE At last evening’s meeting of the One Tree Hill Road Board, presided over by the chairman, Mr. H. B. Dobbie, a letter was received from the Onehunga Borough Council suggesting that a conference be held to deal with the question of maintaining boundary roads and to decide which body should be held responsible for storm-water drainage on them. The .board, after a short discussion decided to agree to the suggestion and the clerk was instructed to arrange the conference. A draft copy of a proposed agreement with the fire board was received from Nicholson and Gribben, solicitors. The fire board proposed to provide adequate fire protection in the district at an annual cost of £550 for alarm point maintenance, and to take full responsibility. It was decided to approve the agreement. A report was received from the turncock saying that, in the two-thirds of the district already tested, nine leakages had been discovered in the water system. This would not account for all the losses which had been recorded, but it was probable that a number of metres in private houses were not registering correctly. Work was already in hand testing these and it was expected that they would be found to be responsible for the inaccuracy. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, M.P., wrote saying that he was willing, during Mr. Jordan’s absence in Canada, to deal with any questions requiring attention. A letter was received from the Post-master-General asking information as to why the Green Lane Post Office was considered inadequate. The clerk announced that he had sent a copy of this letter to the association which had brought the question before the board, but had received no reply. It was decided to defer consideration of the letter until next meeting. _ _ , The building inspector reported that since the last meeting 12 building permits had been issued, representing a total value of £4.638.
