LOS ANGELES MURDER

GIRL’S LOVER ARRESTED LOS ANGELES, August 8. Barbara Mauger, a 19-year-old girl, disappeared three weeks ago, and it was not until Friday night that her dead body, with a bullet wound in the head, was found. Her lover, a married man, Russel Beitzel, aged 28, has been arrested. Beitzel is a mechanical engineer, and is said to have lived happily with his wife and two chldren before he became enamoured of Miss Mauger. He stole £I,OOO from the wholesale warehouse where he was employed as credit manager, and eloped with the girl to Hollywood. When Beitzel was arrested he maintained his innocence, claiming that he took Miss Mauger for a ride in the hills south-west of Hollywood, that they quarrelled, and that she leaped from the car. He declared that he never saw her again.
