Two Auckland Girls Write And Illustrate a Book

A MONG the recent publications issued by J. M. Dent and Sons, Ltd., is a book for children, “Patty Who Believed in Fairies,” written and illustrated by two Auckland girls, Miss Dearmer MacCormac and Miss Olive Lloyd. Miss MacCormac, whose work is well known in New Zealand journals, began the story during her school days and completed it while still in her

teens, the fantasy being woven for her smaller sister, who, incidentally, figures as the heroine of the tale. This young writer’s literary career began at the early age of nine, when her first story appeared in the “Canterbury Times” in the days when Miss Jessie Mackay, the New Zealand poetess, edited the children's pages. Since

then she has never deserted the way of the pen. Miss Olive LJoyd. who. received her training at the Elam School of Art, is a daughter of Mr. Trevor Lloyd, of this city. She is a member of the art section of the New Zealand Penwomen’s League. and is equally at home in black-and-white work and in colour. The manuscript, with the coloured

illustrations, was brought to the notice of Mr. Lent on a recent visit to Xew Zealand, and he commissioned Miss Lloyd to complete the set of pictures in line. An advance copy of the book was taken by one of the delegates to the Pan-Pacific Conference of Women in Honolulu.
