Improving Great South Road The Main Highways Board, having approved of a £ 3 to £1 subsidy, the main south road through Huntly will now be put in order for a width of IS feet. A start will be made next week. The process will be bituminous-sealing by penetration. Mr. A. A. Woodward, engineer to the board, will have charge of the work. * * * Pea-rifle Accident As a result of a shooting accident at Ohura yesterday, A. P. Brown, IS years, was removed to the Taumarunui Hospital with a pea-rifle bullet in a knee. Brown and another youth were loading the rifle when the cartridge jammed, and exploded as the breach was pushed home. * * * Waiuku Manual School A deputation from Waiuku, headed by Mr. W. E. Jerrim, asked the Education Board to-day that a manual training centre should be established then© for 194 children from surrounding schools. Tlie chairman, Mr. A. Burns, said that the board should support the application.. It was decided to ask the supervisor of manual instruction for a report. - * * Theft From Cottage Two rugs, two tents and a mattress have been stolen from a summer cottage, owned by Mr. P. Richardson, at Avondale South. The cottage was broken into during the week-end. * * * Postal Delivery at Castor Bay The residents of Castor Bay are to have a daily postal delivery. An agitation. which has been going on for the past three years, has now ended. Previously residents collected their mail at Milford. * * * Driver’s Arms Burned When a motor-lorry owned by the Gisborne Borough Council was being started this morning, a back-fire ignited the petrol, and in endeavouring to suppress the flames Mr. W. McDonnell had his arms severely burned. The lorry was destroyed.
