GRAMMAR SCHOOL CONCERT

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME A very successful annual concert was given by pupils of the Mount Albert Grammar School in the Town Hall last evening. The hall was comfortably filled, and the programme was received with evident signs of appreciation. The mass singing by the pupils was one of the outstanding features of the programme, which opened with the singing of the school song by some 500 boys, followed with a chorus, “Stonecracker John.” Other choruses were, “In an Old Fashioned Town,” and “The Poor Old Bosun.” Several of the boys provided dramatic selections from Shakespeare, and a farce, “In a Dentist's Chair.” A Spanish dance, “La Careno,” was given by members of the school house, and it proved most effective. A solo with chorus, “The Midshipmate,” given by the senior pupils also proved an enjoyable item, as also were two part songs by the school choir. A concerted recitation by members of form 38, songs by J. H. Cameron, “At My Window,” and “Take Me Back to Bendigo,” and an instrumental selection, “Sweet Recollections” (Hoffman), contributed by L. Montgomery, C. H. Bye, C. T. Johns and T. Foster were also popular numbers. A drill display by some of the pupils, an elocution item by W. H. Vaughan and a sailor’s hornpipe by A. I. McCowan were well applaud ed.
