STORMS AND FLOODS

U.S. VILLAGES LEVELLED

GREAT DAMAGE DONE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) NEW YORK, Sunday. Four persons were killed in tropical storms which struck North and South Carolina to-day, after having worked their way from the W"est Indies through Florida and Georgia last week. Enormous damage was done in the two last-named States. Some villages were levelled, trees in orchards were uprooted, and wide areas were flooded in the Piedmont section. Both North and South Carolina have been badly affected by the storms. The floods, caused by unprecedented rains, now menace several communities. They have crippled communications, disrupted the power services and paralysed traffic on the railways and roads.
